USS Des Moines (CA-134) was an American heavy cruiser, the keel of which was laid in May 1945, launched in September 1946, and commissioned by the US Navy in 1948.
She was equipped with the world's first automatic loading device for cased charges; she had guns with a firing rate of 10 shots per minute. After commissioning, she engaged in various missions with Newport as her home port, and since 1950 she participated in various training missions in the Caribbean Sea and on the East Coast of the U.S., in the Mediterranean and in the North Atlantic. She served until 1961.
