USS Salem (CA-139) was an American heavy cruiser, laid down in July 1945, launched in March 1947, and commissioned into the US Navy in 1949. The ship's total length at launch was 218.4 m, beam 23.3 m, with a standard displacement of approximately 17,300 tons. Maximum speed was 33 knots. The ship's armament at launch consisted primarily of: 9 x 203 mm guns, 6 x 127 mm twin anti-aircraft guns, and 12 x 76 mm twin anti-aircraft guns. The ship could also initially conduct air operations using 2 seaplanes, but was later adapted to operate a single helicopter.
