On the 4th of July, 1976 a tall sjip parade was held on New York's Huson River to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America. Among the 224 sailboats taking part, one dated back to the Gorch Fock, a three-masted barque-type training ship of the Federal German Republic's Navy. This ship was the Gorch Fock II, the last of the German Navy's barque-type training ship provided with fore and main masts that are the same height at 43.5m, while the mizzen mast is 40m high. Its sails are made of two parts, upper and lower, and it incorporates an 800 horsepower diesel engine. It undertakes its voyages with a crew of 67 and 200 trainees.
