Launched in 1916, the Repulse was a British Reknown class battlecruiser that combined the firepower of a battleship with the speed and mobility of a cruiser, at the expense of armour. Along with the Prince of Wales, she was sunk by Japanese aircraft on December 10, 1941, the first time in history that capital ships actively defending themselves on the open sea were sunk solely by airpower.
