The Douglas TBD Devastator was a torpedo bomber of the US Navy, entering service in 1937. At that time it was the most advanced aircraft flying for the USN, and probably for any navy worldwide. Nonetheless, the fast pace of aircraft development ultimately caught up with it and at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor the TBD was outdated.
