The "Donnerbüchse" (or "Donnerwagen" / "Thunderbox") refers to the two-axle passenger coaches of the Deutsche Reichsbahn, first built in 1921, and made entirely of steel, unlike their wooden predecessors. The name "Donnerbüchse" comes from the loud noise these vehicles produced due to a lack of insulation.
