The first generation Fairlady Z was in November 1969, replacing the open-body Fairlady with a bold coupe style with a long nose and short deck closed body. Two engines, the L20 and the S20, were available in Japan, while in the United States the 240Z and 260Z, equipped with repectively a 2.4 or 2.6 litre inline-six engine, were released under the Datsun Sports band and enjoyed immense popularity.
