In 1972, the Vietnam People's Air Force 921st Sao Do Fighter Regiment operated MiG-21PFM fighters during the peak of air combat in the Vietnam War. Based at airfields such as Noi Bai and Kep, the regiment flew interception missions against US Air Force and US Navy strike packages during Operation Linebacker.
