The Kuwait Air Force's 9th Fighter Squadron operates the KAF-18C Hornet as a key element of the nation's frontline defense. Based at Ahmed Al Jaber Air Base, the squadron conducts air defense, interception, and strike missions. On March 2, 2026, three USAF F-15E Strike Eagles were flying over Kuwait as Iranian drones penetrated Kuwaiti airspace. In the confusion, Kuwaiti forces misidentified the aircraft as hostile targets. Ground-based air defenses, along with at least one KAF-18C, engaged and shot down all three jets. The aircrew ejected safely and were recovered, though the aircraft were lost.
