Commissioned in 1968, CV-67 USS John F. Kennedy served in the Mediterranean Sea and played a role in significant events. Despite unfortunate collisions with USS Belknap and USS Bordelon, she engaged in combat during the Lebanon crisis, shooting down Libyan Mig-23 aircraft with her F-14s. The carrier later participated in "Operation Desert Storm" with airstrikes against Iraq in 1991. After over 30 years of service, USS John F. Kennedy was decommissioned in Mayport, Florida, and resides in the U.S. Navy Reserve Fleet.
