By the end of WWII, the Pz.Kpfw.IV was starting to show its age as it was confronted by newer Allied armor; one of the solutions for the German forces was the Panzer IV/70(A), which gave it improved firepower. To keep development times short, the Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.J chassis was used, and paired with the L/70 7.5cm gun, which had enough firepower to take care of Allied contemporaries; a modified version of the Jagdpanzer IV/70(V) Lang turret was used to accomodate the longer piece.
