The Kumu 1000 series was introduced to enable piggyback transport at a maximum speed of 110 km/h. There were two types: the basic series, which consisted of a two car unit made up of the Kumu 1000, and the Kumu 1001-500, which was operated as a single car. They remained in service until around 2000.
