The Boeing E-3 Sentry has revolutionised military airspace surveillance since its introduction in 1977. As a flying radar and control center, it is based on the civilian Boeing 707. Its distinctive 9.1-meter diameter radome houses a state-of-the-art radar system capable of detecting aerial targets at ranges of up to 400 km. NATO uses the E-3A as a key element of its air defense.
