When the Allied forces captured a modified Tiger I, adapted to serve in a technical and logistical support role for front-line armoured troops, they named it 'Bergetiger', similarly to how they had designated recovery vehicles based on the Panther and Panzer IV tanks. It was essentially a Tiger I, identical in hull and tracks, and above all in its heavy armor, stripped of its main gun and equipped with a crane suitable for towing other tanks and lifting heavy loads.
